Just west of Southport you’ll find the suburb of Parkwood. It is handy to everything including easy access to the M1 Motorway which will put you on your way north or south in minutes. The mainly residential area is popular among families and is close to Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus and Gold Coast University Hospital.  Set amongst bushland, this university is Griffith’s largest and one of Australia’s fastest growing campuses.

Residential
Parkwood has a diverse housing sector ranging from townhouses to executive homes. The area has attracted many investors due to the high demand of tenants attending Griffith University. Vacant land is scarce and usually sold in house land packages.

Shopping
This area is central to everything with a number of shopping centres within easy reach. Harbourtown and Ashmore City lie at opposite ends of Olsen Avenue and both have major grocery stores as well as specialty shops. Harbour Town is continually growing and is home to the largest collection of brand name factory outlets on the Gold Coast. Arundel Plaza and Australia Fair are within minutes by car or by public transport.

Travelling north, Parkwood is approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from Helensvale railway station and approximately 1 hour drive to Brisbane CBD (and 1 hour by train). The local bus service runs through many parts of Parkwood and all have interconnection with other bus routes and modes of transport. An extension to the G:link light rail system opened in December 2017. Beginning at Helensvale station, the extension includes new stops at Parkwood and Parkwood East before it joins the original section of the line at Gold Coast University Hospital. From there, trams continue to Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.

Recreation
The Parkwood Tavern is both popular venues for a drink or a nice pub meal. The Southport Sharks Football Club is a big venue with plenty for the whole family. It has a café, food court and steak and seafood restaurant as well as a fun zone for the kids. There is entertainment most nights and the club attracts well-known performers.

Golf
Parkwood International Golf Course is an 18-hole par 72 championship course and sets a challenge for all levels of golfers. The Clubhouse overlooks eight holes and is open seven days for lunch or a quiet drink. Visitors are welcome to hire equipment including motorised carts. There is also a swimming pool and tennis courts.

Arundel Hills Country Club is one of the Gold Coast’s finest clubs with excellent facilities including an 18-hole championship golf course and a recreation centre with a gymnasium, 25-metre outdoor heated pool and tennis courts. The Country Club also provides accommodation.
