When you make the decision to sell your home there are a few things you need to do to get it ready.
You want to maximise your market by making your home attractive to a diverse group of potential buyers. Using a few or all of these tips your home will be ship shape and ready for the market.
If it has been many years since your home has seen a fresh lick of paint now is the time to get the rollers out. Pick a fresh neutral colour (avoid feature walls) that will make your home feel bright and clean. A fresh coat of paint will give you more bang for your buck than anything else you do for your home.
Now is the time to remove family photos, take all the bits and pieces off your bedside tables, coffee tables and display units. If you have too many pieces of furniture that make a room look and feel small, remove them and store at a friend or family members house. Potential buyers need to be able to envision themselves living in your home.
Bathroom: Keep bench tops clear of containers and personal grooming items. Store these under the sink or in a dedicated box that is accessible when needed. Have a set of towels that you only use for open homes so they are fresh.
Kitchen: Keep the bench clear of appliances and general clutter. Store washing up sponges and brushes under the sink. Pot fresh herbs to add freshness and aroma (they will last longer than cut flowers too).
If you have dark heavy blinds consider removing them or make sure they are always open to the side to let in as much natural light as possible.
Consider cheap artwork and fresh pillows to add colour to your living areas.
Keep lawns trimmed and trees cut back.
The first impression is your front garden so make it a good one. Pressure clean driveways and paths (borrow one from a friend if you don’t have one) this will make a big impact with little cost to achieve it.
Keep your patio or deck clear of clutter. Dress the area to show that it is a relaxing space and an extension of the main home.
