Brightening your home doesn’t have to involve a major renovation. There are many different ways to increase natural light in your home:
Consider Light Wood Flooring
If you’re looking for a little extra light in your home, it’s best to choose flooring that won’t make your space look even darker than it already is. Light wood flooring is the perfect option to help brighten up the room. If you’re working with a space that has carpet, opt for a cream or beige colour.
Take Advantage of Mirrors and Reflective Surfaces
Mirrors are not only useful for making sure you leave the house looking in order, but they can also make your space seem larger and brighter. By hanging a mirror directly opposite a window, you’re automatically doubling the amount of sunlight in your room. If you don’t want to go overboard with the mirrors, you can also try adding furniture with glass, silver photo frames or other reflective surfaces.
Lose the Heavy Curtains
Heavy curtains are just going to make your abode feel and look dark. Opt for light coloured blinds or even light sheer curtains, this will allow sunshine to enter and spread throughout the room.
Select a White or Neutral Colour Scheme
Dark coloured paint is never going to help the lack of light in your home. A fresh coat of paint with white or a neutral colour will lift your room and brighten the space straight away. The same goes for artwork – be mindful of where you place dark paintings and cover walls in photos or posters, you want light coloured walls to reflect the sunlight, so covering them will do the opposite.
Opt For More Light Fittings
Sometimes ceiling lights won’t be enough. Try adding more light sources in the room, opting for white LED light bulbs to maximise the brightness. You can add a floor lamp or a table lamp to the corner of the room, allowing the light to bounce off the wall as well.
