Spending time on your balcony doesn’t have to mean awkward run-ins with your neighbours. Ensuring you have the ultimate privacy elements are key when it comes to enjoying your outside space.

We’ve listed some of the best ways to create a tranquil balcony whilst not sacrificing aesthetics.

Shutters

If you own your balcony and it’s feasible, consider fitting plantation shutters. Not only are they extremely appealing on the eye, modern and low maintenance, plantation shutters will also do just the trick in terms of your privacy. Shutters are also great for keeping out harsh sunlight and wet weather, whilst still having the option to enjoy the breeze when they’re open.

Greenery

Incorporating plants into your home has become a huge trend, so why not extend the greenery to your balcony. Vertical planters are a great start, or you could opt for large potted palms, bushy shrubs or growing vines.

Screening

If fitting shutters into your balcony isn’t a feasible option, privacy screening may be the next go too. Bamboo screening, heavy duty fabric, or stylish lattice can all be used to create privacy.

Blinds/Awning

Depending on the style of your balcony a simple awning or outdoor blinds may do the trick to help give privacy from your neighbours. Blinds will also help block out the sun, and if you’re already tight on space they won’t take up too much room. An outdoor umbrella may also offer privacy from those above, but be sure to secure it firmly in case of severe weather.
